Connel Bridge Over Height Detection

Background

The Connel Bridge is a cantilever bridge, located in Connel, West Scotland and spans Loch Etive. The bridge has various approaches that takes the A828 road across the narrowest part of the loch, at the Falls of Lora. Bear Scotland have been looking to update the current Over height Vehicle Detection systems which have been in place for over 10 Years and due to the elements are now beyond economical repair.

Solution

So far, Coeval has replaced two full systems between July 2023 and February 2024 on the A85 approach, including signage with information for Over height Vehicles. The Over Height Detection Systems trigger when an Over Height Vehicle breaks the beam. Once the beam is broken a signal is sent to an intelligent LED sign which displays a message warning the over height vehicle divert.

Outcome

The Over Height Detection System has now been installed and has shown no faults up to now.
