Coeval don’t do what we do because it’s particularly glamorous, or because we’re obsessed with LEDs or the latest sign technology. We’re in the business because we care about road users, and providing a safe experience as they go about their daily lives. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to have won Road Safety Scheme of the Year 2017 alongside our partners Clearview Intelligence, Transport Scotland and Scotland TranServ. The award comes as a result of a combined effort that hopes to reduce casualties on the A75, the extremely busy road that connects Stranraer to major motorway networks. It’s a notorious hotspot for accidents and has been a problem area for some time.
Our partners Scotland TranServ identified that the A75 had an accident rate 1.5 times higher than the UK average, and worked with us alongside Clearview Intelligence to come up with a solution to help save lives. The system involved identifying the particular types of vehicles that were causing the most accidents, and warning them if they exceeded the safe speed for that specific vehicle. The award judge called it “an innovative approach identifying the class of vehicle causing issues and specifically targeting that class.”
The award night was put together by Highways Magazine, and was a fantastic celebration of all the hard work the highways industry puts in to keep our roads safe. A big thanks to all the companies that turned up and made it a great night. And while the recognition of an award is nice, the real victory comes with that the knowledge that the roads are safer place as a result of combined hard work.
Not only that but also, the Official Charity Partner for the evening reported that an amazing £4,769 was raised! The Lighthouse Club, who provide financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families had Chief Executive Bill Hill attend and gratefully receive the proceeds.
